Platform 2010

On 25th March I attended the Platform 2010 event in hull. I expected that it would have speakers talking about the games industry, issues and topics. Although the speakers talked about topics around the games industry. Content on a large part was commercial and advertising. I understand that it was the first event and content would have been extremely source so corparate presentations would have filled out the show. Although the presentations on character were vailuble to me and explained a really simple concept that was almost blaringly obvious. I think with time over the years it will improve as more industry professionals will become intrested in the event.

designs,back up

Implimenation

in stores such as hmv, might help prolong cd sales and provie acess to stores for indiependant labels, saing on cd’s as they arent mass produced therefore hving to cover costs. This will llow for near download prices. hopefully it will regenerate the idea of going to a “record store” to purchese music off the cuff instead of going direct to itunes for what you want.

alternitives

itunes,simillar download service,

- In home convienent and accounts for a large proportion of sales of music

-Cheap and acesssible to audience of millions

-can burn cds - but involves large cost at consumer level - purchesing discs atretail rate

- if media is not backed up it can be costly

-can cover all tastes

itunes,napster

-acessible only if you have internet

shop

- Purchesing the cd from a shop - Old and safe means all media is backed up

-Can be more exspensive as the cds need to cover mass production costs early on

-middle man of producer of the discs.

- Large range stocked but still hard to account for everyones taste.

-vertuailly acessible on most main high streets

Hmv-(potential client)

online shop

-Cheap allows discounts

-postage/can be little can be exspensive

-large choice including less heard of artists

-Examples www.play.com

Why

Cd sales are down and it is a finacially hard time for everybody. Hmv are looking for a way to improve dramtically declineing cd sales as selling new thecnology is not accounting for lost sales of cd’s. something needs to be done while there is intial intrest to save the brand. IT needs to bring downthe cost of wholesale cd albums and increse costomer sales and offer. A digital solution stops them loosing out to digital competition. Has to be instore to shave jobs and the buisness.

-Intrest is still seen in buying cd’s

-Backing up music is a problem for lazy consumers

-Could partner with an online service.

Audience

Anyon in the shop

-so should account for resonable thecnical unability

the system should flow easily and not involve comple actions or menus

allow for browsing lesuirely not involve massive intial input , although allow rigorous search.

To do

questionaire - how will people use this and how wil it attract the audience back to physical sales how does it ned to be done

How it will be presented finshed

Gesture table by moving brands

-Takes away from a mundane kiosk for the “fun” part, immersive and interactive more natural ike browsing through cds.

-Payment and thecnical side handeled at a kiosk.

Twitter Review

Over the last year i have used the online service Twitter.com. Although i have seen it to be interresting and useful for infomation i found it hard to get used to. The interface is clearly set out and all “tweets” from people ou are following are displayed in a timeline From that you can “re-tweet” which re pots through to your followers with credit to the original tweeter. You can group Your followers and who you are following for easy acess or to filter tweets on your timeline.

Personally as I dont have a field of expertise i find it hard to join in the “twitter community” and interact with any real meaning to anyone. As im sure no ne really cares about tweets about what i’m doing. Where as tweets from celebrities may be more intresting if people are fans of theres or they want infomation on what they do as an artist.. ie bands tour dates compitions or releases.

It also provides a kind of personal contact with the artist through a safe medium although many famos bands twitter accounts may be maintained by record companies so they create the illusion of a personal contct or a manafactured band image.

Many famous bloggers or tweeters provide useful infomation on subjects such as design, news, or industry specific infmation and this is where twitter becomes a pool of infomation and an indusrty contact book. Jobs in specific indstry and ideas or projevts can be shared directly with like minded peope.

In the case of a pool of infomation i particualrly enjoed the tweets from NME magazine. As music is a subject im intrested in i found updates intresting about music sories and issues relating to music ocassionally reteeting these posts as i know my friends or folowers may be intrested in smilar things.

In conclusion i find it hard to get into twitter or think of something to tweet about of value to anyone else but im sure as i slowly add more serious tweeters and get intrested in certian fields ill be able to interact within those communitys more as i try.

Html

Today was my first introduction to HTML writing. At first i found it extremely difficult as i didnt know what the setup of the page would look like from the pieces of code i was entering. Having limited kwonedege of the codeing i couldnt personilise the page as i would have wanted to as a designer. This may have been because i didn’t know much code or because i was unfirmilar with the style of createing a website. Although i was made aware there are ways of placing the content as you want it but involved knowing the code to do so. In this respect i would prefer to use an application such as Dreamweaver where you can design a page in design view exctally as you intended it to be seen. Although i learnt from the session  the basic use of html for hiding header infomation for the use of search engines and header titles. This was easily grasspable. Also after using text editor to create and save my code i could see the web page i had created using html. Overall i was sucesfull enough to create a small micro site with links to an extenal site (google) and links to the other page and back.  With further lessons into html i may understnad its uses and pros alot better just currently with little knowldge its very difficult.

Millionaires Project

man 44

He is married with three children two boys 13 and 18 and one girl 15. They have a wide collection of dvds, film and music shared over personal laptops and a un-networked shared home personal computor. He uses computors internet and email regularly as part of his job.  uses several different means of communication to keep in contact with the office and colleagues.  This results in using several different devices he needs to carry around because his job involves visiting clients at there work place. He and his family use iphones. He is very into photography and it being seen. He doesnt want flashy cars or useless gadgets but things that make his life easier and engages his family.

With the advent of technology have we become more isolated from each other and more concentrated on the piece of kit itself.?After watching a programme on bbc4 named “electric dreams” where a family is taken through a diffrent decade of technology every week. Over a ten day period each year is dedicted in one day so thecnology realeased in that year is given to the familly that day. After a while it became apparent that the thecnology was concentrated on nad used less in usion. This gave me ideas for my project as too creating an enviroment or home where collaberation is valued and media shared and exhibited to everyone at once. This promted me to steer away from the flashy gaming “pod” with gaming chairs.

After this i sterred away from creating a personal enviroment using thecnology. To a home wiered for thecnology and interaction.

Straightaway i thought of taking gaming to a communal area and sreaming all media there. Then i thought instnatlly to the iphone app and air tunes system for all around the house and being able to play anyones music anywhere.

Interaction  then came to my mind as an area where everbodies lives converge into one. Appointments and events ect to health infomation. this could be displayed on a tv in the kitchen Then it occured to me to use a smart board not traditonally used in the home but brilliant format.Home living was also important to consider. I thought of how it could be improved. I looked to home control heating and lighting . Saves energy and makes the home work better. Better lit rooms make there use easier and more comfrtable.

The advert will be filmed mainly from the perspective of the male game player. The camera will only pan from one point to another.

The first shot will be of the man playing on the xbox.

It will then pan from the game playing to the girl trying the tempt the man away.

The camera will pan back to the game play.

Then the camera will pan back to the girl trying to tempt him away with beer, but he decides to carry on playing the game and the camera pans back to the game.

The camera pans back to the girl who is wearing a football shirt and holding football tickets. The man decides again to carry on playing the game.

The camera pans back onto the girl who is holding a frying pan and then proceeds to hit the man over the head and it fades to black.

The final shot is of the girl sat ontop of the unconcious man playing the game herself, still wearing the football shirt and drinking the beer.
